Decorating on a Budget

Every event host desires to give their guests that “wow” factor when they walk into a room.  After all, getting together in a transformed space is what makes an event that much more special. Transforming a space doesn’t have to be as complicated or as expensive as you might think.  After all, the “wow factor” is in the details.   Whether you’re preparing for a birthday party, a wedding reception, baby shower, or a bar mitzvah, all you need is a space and a little imagination.  The most popular decor go-tos are generally balloons, flowers, candles, lighting and a backdrop or large item to draw someone's eyes to.  It does not take breaking the bank to bring your vision to life and here are some options to consider while you save your pennies in the process.

If you’re going to elevate your status, you’ll want to think about what type of lighting options will fit your theme.  This can include anything from a number of candles to paper lanterns to our ever popular twinkle or fairy lights.  You will find some great options on Amazon for $20 or less per pack!  Paper lantern lights will give your space a fuller and colorful feel.  Candles will give your space a classic and tranquil feel.  And twinkle lights will give your space a fantasy feel.  Whichever option you consider, know that Amazon always has you covered!

Balloons are one of my favorite options to incorporate due to their fun and playful nature.  Their light and bouncy presence will bring a light-hearted element to your event.  While balloon trees are increasingly popular for an event, you don’t need to go to vendors to create this if you need to cut costs.  An affordable option to consider is Dollar Tree.  They might surprise you with their quality and assortment, but this is my absolutely go-to.  Yes, at Dollar Tree everything's a dollar and there are a wide variety of solid colors, shapes or text-filled balloons available to suit your occasion. If you’re looking for balloon letters, I recommend checking out Hobby Lobby.

Speaking of Hobby Lobby, they are my go-to when I’m looking for wall decor.  Oftentimes, there is a 50% off of wall art decor promotion available.  If you are looking for a larger decor item to draw your guest’s eyes to or make a not-so-subtle announcement, you may want to give thought to wall letters.

If wall art is not an option, for an outdoor space you can create a beautiful archway that is customized with plants, balloons, or flowers.  This is a trendy item that is often used for weddings and outdoor reception spaces.  Either way, a beautiful archway is bound to have your guests admiring a major focal point in the space.

Flowers are the part I love incorporated in an event space.  The light colors and fresh aroma add a natural and classic element to your space.  As much as I love a good flower arrangement, I can’t always justify paying for the flowers to be arranged for me in a vase.  As such, it’s only fair to think of identifying alternative vases that will fit your event’s theme and aesthetic.  Creating your own flower arrangement with selections from your local market or grocery store, lets you be more hands-on with selecting the exact flowers and plants you wish to include.  This is a more affordable way to create beautiful decor elements or table centerpieces.

Either way you choose to decorate your space, it will leave your guests utterly impressed.  It doesn’t take a whole lot of money to bring a vision to life.  The ingredients = shopping smart + DIY projects.  Anything is possible.
